MR. DEEPAK SANKIT

Mr. Deepak Sankit is a master craftsman of meenakari, an extraordinary enamel craft of pink city which is passed down for generation. He was born and brought up in the family of master craftsman, Late Mr. Raj Kumar Sankit.
Mr. Deepak Sankit won national Merit Award in 2003 for excellence in meenakari, an ancestral art legacy maintained by his family since 1880 AD.He works from his ancestral house in Jaipur along with equally skilled family members and employees trained by him. His store EMPORIA DR is situated at 2, Lototi house, Jacob road, civil lines, Jaipur. This painstaking traditional process can take months to finish. Inspired by the artistic beauty of the Jaipur City Palace, he creates an array of meenakari buttons, cufflinks, rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings exquisite and classy hand painted motifs depicting birds, animals, floral, etc. This traditional unique artwork are made with hot enameling and gold foiling techniques to create collectible that make the perfect gift for Family and friends. He learned traditional meenakari technique which involves the engraving on gold, before applying the enamel, in order to reflect through the translucent enamel meena (glass color), so that the color appears as shimmering as precious stones. Deepak Sankit has given live demonstration in New York (USA), Budapest, Australia, Switzerland, Italy, and neighboring Asian countries. Recently represented India to promote artwork at Honolulu (Hawaii) and Lapointe Gallery in Vancouver, Canada. He was honored by Her Highness Raj Mata Padimani Devi of Jaipur. Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust confers Raja Bhagwant Das Award 2018 For Excellence in traditional crafts of Jaipur to Mr. Deepak Sankit in recognition of his contribution towards continuing to pursue, refine and further this traditional craft in contemporary context. His work was honored by the World Crafts council (WCC)Award of Excellence for handicrafts 2018 – South Asia Sub-region. The jury admired the exquisite picture frame. It is an innovative product requiring a high level of ‘meenakari’ skill. He holds workshops to promote age old art and provide training to young talents to learn enamel art in many colleges like Arch Academy od Design, Pearl Academy, IICD, IIGJ, Manipal University, etc.

BRIJ BALLABH UDAIWAL

Me. Brij Ballabh Udaiwal belongs to a family of traditional textile block printers from Sanganer. Sanganer – place which is well known throughout the world for its fine printing with wooden blocks on fabrics. Being a National Award Winner, year 1991(National Award is conferred to the Crafts persons and weavers in recognition of their outstanding contribution, craftsmanship & development of craft) he has been actively involved and working for the upliftment of craftsmen by running various educational and vocational training centers. He is also energetically involved in the developments which are taking place regarding the future of hand-block printing in Sanganer and providing employment to 85 odd units dealing in hand-block printing, hand embroidery and stitching which are located in Jaipur, Sanganer, Bagru and nearby places and treats every craft person as the original creator of the design and the process because he is the one who knows his job well and has been doing it since ages and thus can create things which are truly his own creations.
He is also currently running an NGO in the name of Shilpi Sansthan. They are the manufacturer and exporter of all types of bed cover, pillows, cushions, cushion covers and hand block printed quilts ( Hand Block Printed Home Textiles & Furnishings, Handicrafts and Gifts ) and he is always looking for avenues that provides ample opportunity to showcase the excellence of Natural/Vegetable Dyeing and Printing Handicrafts at International as well as National platforms.
